Isaiah 9:1-7 Sermon - “Wonderful Counselor”

“As long as we think our real problems are external to our lives we will look for lesser wonders to deliver us.” - Bob Flayhart

Opening our Advent series in Isaiah 9, Bob noted how, even as believers, too often we look for hope in the things of the world and blame external factors for the issues in our lives, deciding that we can “do it ourselves” without God. However, the truth is that we should turn our attention to our internal problem - our helplessness in the face of our own sin. Our true hope for salvation from our true problem is Christ’s death and resurrection having freed us from enslavement to sin.
