Colossians 3:18-4:1 Sermon

In God’s providence, we arrived at these verses on the Christian household dynamic on Father’s Day. As Bob explained, compared to the Roman household code of the time, the responsibilities for husbands and fathers that these verses lay out were downright radical. Men are called to love their wives tenderly, not harshly. To encourage their children, not provoke them. To lead a home where the children obey both parents - not just their fathers as would have been common in those days. God’s Word charges men to be the head of the home, but only insofar as they are emulating Christ in their sacrifical leadership.
