Porch Light Ministry

Foster, Adoption, and Kinship Care Ministry

Porch Light is the Family Advocacy Ministry (FAM) for Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church.

James 1:27 describes "pure religion" as caring for orphans and widows in their affliction. This call extends to everyone, not just those who foster or adopt. Foster, adoptive, and kinship families need community support, and we all have a role to play. If you'd like more information on serving, or are a foster, adoptive, or kinship family, please contact Becky Gibbens, our Porch Light Ministry Coordinator.

CARE COMMUNITIES:

Care Communities are a valuable tool that FAMs utilize to support vulnerable children and families in need. Parents who foster or adopt and kinship care families require support as they take on the responsibility of raising children with unique needs. Providing practical, hands-on support through Care Communities creates a healthier environment for a child's transition into their new home. It's worth noting the impact Care Communities have on foster family retention. While the national average of families who continue fostering after their first year is around 50%, this number increases to 90% when families are supported by a FAM and its Care Communities.
