In truth, that cynicism is down to our unbelief, not a lack of faithfulness from God. When we get the opposite of what we pray for, it certainly isn’t a sign that God doesn’t love us. Instead, it is God giving us what is good, even if we don’t see it that way at the time. The practice of prayer should make us more submissive to God, and more able to surrender to the providence of His will.
